With the motto "Duisburg down to the Rhine“, the planning envisages developing and networking four inner-city areas of land along the banks of the Rhine in Hochfeld. Across cleared railway lines and areas of industrial land, starting from the central rail station a sequence of open spaces as well as public green areas as far as the Rhine will be developed which connect the city centre up to the Rhine and at the same time include all of the main areas of economic development.
The goal is to implement measures which have an upgrading effect from a town planner's point of view as well as to push economic and ecological development ahead.
Working, living and recreation in the "RhinePark" The first measure to be taken is the implementation of "RhinePark Hochfeld". The RhinePark comprises a service park, complementary use for housing purposes, catering and other leisure facilities as well as an extensive public green space with a generously dimensioned Rhine embankment promenade.
The high-quality lavishly designed green area and its link with the service park, in which more than 4,000 new jobs are to be created, is a guarantor of the settlement of high-quality companies here (catchword: working in the park).
Ensuring a modern relationship between the functions of the city This project continues the integrated development of business and open space locations already started in the city within the scope of the International Construction Exhibition Emscher Park. The RhinePark, the Inner Harbour and the MultiCasa project close to the central rail station form the three anchor points of Duisburg's city centre development. With the various approaches to the structural change project, the city of Duisburg is in that way consistently pursuing the objective of ensuring a modern relationship between working, living and recreation in Duisburg.
