...from steel
Former Krupp-Hüttenwerk Rheinhausen
The present day Logport site was known as Krupp-Hüttenwerk Rheinhausen until only a few years ago. Here steel had been produced for almost 100 years. At peak times for the works, up to 15,000 persons were employed here. The steel crisis did not leave Duisburg, the number one steel production location in Europe, unscathed. The outcome was the shutdown of the works at the end of the 1980s. With the support of the Land of NRW, the area was acquired and re-planned. After extensive demolition and rehabilitation work, redevelopment and a new infrastructure, Logport is now, after only a few years, being successfully marketed as a logistics location.
...to logistics
Ultra-modern logistics is the present and the future
The development and the promotion of logistics and logistics-oriented services are meanwhile standard features in Duisburg. Logistics which has always been a strong sector of the Duisburg economy is now a main area of development among the city of Duisburg's objectives regarding the economic structure.
