In autumn 2002, St. George´s School in Duisburg providing teaching in English was opened. So far there had been a St. George's School in North Rhine-Westphalia only in Cologne. The school has been operating successfully there since 1985.
The school wants to address foreign and German parents in the whole of the Rhine/Ruhr region and on the lower Rhine who want to have their children taught in English. The decision was made in favour of Duisburg as a location because of its central situation, its good infrastructure and the "very nice people" the school's headmistress Marietta Horton says.

The school offers whole-day care and schooling in classes each with a maximum of 20 pupils. St. George's is a co-educational, non-denominational school which seeks to provide the best of the English private education system for children aged three to 18. As the only English-language school in Duisburg, it aims to achieve high academic standards by means of small classes, dedicated staff, and a flexible timetable, tailored to the needs of the individual child. Native English-speaking pupils are given the opportunity to continue the work started at their previous school, without interruption. Non-native English-speaking pupils receive support from the school’s ESL (English as a second language) department. The school fees for one child are between 500 and 600 euros a month.
