On its web site you can find everything worth knowing about leisure and culture in Duisburg: As the westernmost city in the region known as the Ruhr and at the same time the upper centre of the Lower Rhine, Duisburg is a good starting point for excursions in and exploration of the surrounding region.
Guided tours of the city, round sight-seeing tours of the city or cultural journeys can be booked with the DMG. For example, the Tour to Duisburg's inner harbour.
Inner harbour Duisburg
"Below the back of the town hall the Alter Markt (Old Market) is situated. It directly bordered on Rhine before the latter changed its course in about 1000 A.D. With the later construction of a Rhine Canal, divided into an Outer Harbour and an Inner Harbour, a goods transhipment area directly before Duisburg's gates again arose. The Inner Harbour once known, because of its granaries and grain mills, as the Bread Basket of the Ruhr, is today developing, with its museums, marina, green areas, restaurants and attractive housing units into a desirable attraction directly by the waterside.“ (Courtesy: Duisburg Marketing)
Or you decide in favour of a conducted boat tour:

Duisport - Europe's largest inland port
"A tour on the ships of the Duisburg port tour company along the Rhine and through the port of Duisburg is a fascinating experience for young and old. Sailing past river-navigating ocean-going vessels 250 km away from the coast, past towering cranes and warehouses as big as football pitches and observing how the most varied goods from all over the world are transhipped, gives you a real first-hand impression of what world trade means.“ (Courtesy: Duisburg Marketing)
